Report: Agastya’s Rural Children Win at the INTEL/CII Science Fair

We, at Agastya International Foundation are overjoyed to share with you the news that Agastya’s Young Instructor Leaders (YILs) have once again proved themselves at the IRIS Science Fair.

Five underprivileged students from the rural schools of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, mentored by Agastya under its Young Instructor Leaders (YILs) programme, have won Special Awards at the IRIS National Science Fair 2011. One winning team has also been given a rare opportunity by the Broadcasting Foundation to visit the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair at Pittsburgh, USA, thus becoming Broadcom Masters’ International Delegates.

Not satisfied with a hat trick, Agastya's young, talented and confident children proved their mettle again this year. Competing with over 1000 projects submitted by the best of private, elite and international schools in India, 11 of the 16 projects submitted by the students of Agastya were among the final 103 projects showcased. At the final event, over 34 teams from different parts of the country won special awards. Agastya’s rural teams clearly held their own by bagging 3 of those awards including a special trip to the USA!

This is an amazing feat for Agastya. My heartiest congratulations to Ramji and the Team at Agastya. May they go from success to success and achieve milestones in rural education in India. Maybe others in the country, especially those governing us in the centre, need to follow the guidelines of Agastya. Many good wishes to Agastya in all their endeavours.
