The fair is an extension of Agastya International Foundation’s Dhwani Media-on-a-Bike program, empowering government school children in India to express their creativity. Children participating in the fair showcase original films, photographs, and stories, sharing their voices and celebrating their artistic skills. The fair also features creative and immersive installations through which children’s works are reimagined and transformed, showcasing new interpretations. A display of professional artworks and photographs alongside children’s creations act as inspiration and demonstrate the impact of storytelling and artistic expression. Accompanying the gallery spaces are creative workshops and performances, which are aimed at sparking creativity and fostering collaboration. About Aha! Kollective Explore events and workshops Explore Agastya’s vibrant young instructors will lead the fair, guiding you through each experience and inspiring the creativity of all who attend. This two-day event promises to ignite imagination and highlight the endless possibilities of artistic expression. The fair has been curated by Jinal Sangoi, a visual artist and educator who explores creative methodologies through participatory and collaborative practices that integrate art, design, pedagogy, and community. Since 2019, she has designed and led workshops for children and teachers, including those at the Kala Ghoda Festival and Kala Kootami with Agastya International Foundation. A CalArts alumna, she is currently the co-director of the Council for Arts and Social Practice and teaches at IIT Bombay. A recipient of the Arts for Good Fellowship, Gender Bender Grant, and Tim Disney Prize, she has exhibited and taught worldwide, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue through art and education. What is the challenge? Theme: Imagination and Inspiration. Challenge: Remix or recreate children’s works into creative, exhibits or visual media. Resources Provided: Space and a power source. Prototype Requirements: Focus on sustainability, futuristic thinking, and eco-friendly design. One member from each team must register and submit a proposal. Proposals should be based on the children's work. Emails will be sent to all selected individuals/teams, and a one-month time period will be given to create the installation. India faces a rising challenge with school dropouts, particularly in rural areas. Many children are unable to attend school regularly due to various factors, including the need to help with household chores or supplement family income and the struggle to keep up academically. Over time, these hurdles can lead to disengagement and dropping out of school altogether. How Will This Project Solve the Problem? Since 2009, Agastya's "Night Village School" project has created an engaging and impactful environment to support students and school dropouts. With the help of local college volunteers, Agastya offers evening remedial lessons, allowing children who have missed out on school to catch up and rediscover their excitement for learning. By bringing education closer to home, this initiative helps students build confidence and, in many cases, return to regular classes, staying connected to the joy of discovery. Potential Long-Term Impact The project will lead to trigger positive behavioral shifts that lead to curious, confident, and humane individuals engaging creatively in their communities and eventually mainstreaming school dropouts. It will also elevate the educational status of children in every village and transform the level of empowerment in communities in the future. This Competition will primarily involve undergraduate Engineering students and underprivileged school going students where the students together will follow philosophies and practices of hands-on learning, research orientation, to make models based on Engineering-Science concepts. The Engineering Students will mentor school students in the creation of models while inducing knowledge and confidence in them. Engineering colleges will participate as teams with 2 members. The teams will select 2 students from nearby underprivileged schools (Govt. and Govt. aided schools) to mentor them to design and build models or projects around an identified social problem. The school students thus will be exposed to the entire planning, designing, and building process of the models and in turn, will get educated in the scientific and engineering concepts behind the models in Anveshana. Agastya International Foundation has been conducting it successfully every year in association with Synopsys India Ltd., from 2011-12 in Bangalore, 2013-14 in Hyderabad, 2015-16 in NCR Delhi, and 2018-19 in Mumbai. Anveshana is well received by engineering colleges in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. About Anveshana Process Initial Screening of Engineering College Teams: Concept synopses based on social problems and related Engineering solutions are invited from engineering college teams for pre-screening by the jury. First-round jury process: The jury will evaluate the registered projects and approaches taken by students and select the top 37 or top 30 depending upon location. These projects will go on to implement their ideas and demonstrate. Screening, selection of Synopsis, and identifying mentees: Once selected the teams are asked to contact local schools with underprivileged status and to form teams with school students. They plan, design, and make the models while collaborating and mentoring the school students. Model Creation and Quality Check by the Agastya team: Students will create knowledge networks between themselves, their peers, and with external resource persons to create conceptual and methodological frameworks to create the models. Here, Agastya teams along with assigned senior resource persons (senior educators, engineers, etc.) will visit the colleges to assist the teams conceptually and in the making of the models while providing inputs including scientific and technological inputs. One of the main reasons for these visits is to ensure the quality of the collaboration and teaching-mentoring-learning outcomes. Conceptual - Technological advice from Agastya: Agastya will also help the teams to establish links between prominent institutions like the Indian Institute of Science, Institution of Engineers, Indian Institute of Technology etc. – in case they need any technological or conceptual inputs. Anveshana Fair begins: The models thus made will be exhibited in the Anveshana Science and Engineering fair where the teams will be presenting the same in front of an expert Jury for Judgement. During the fair, students display their research projects and working models and present their findings orally and through written journals to the Jury (mostly a team of scientists and educators). The judging process involves a series of interactions on the concepts, methodology, and objectives of the projects done by the students. Delegates attending the fair: After the judging process students from various schools and delegates representing various institutions are also expected to attend the fair.
